Tonight at work, in the midst of a dinner's rush and the overwhelming mess that devoured me...

I thought of one. Happy. Thought.

Italy. This is all for Italy.

And everything was alright.

A Broad, Studying.

DAD (TO FRIEND): Well, Jenny's studying in England this semester.

DAD'S FRIEND: Oh! What, there're no books or schools here? Too good for us?

ME: Hah. Haha. Hahaha!

DAD: She wants to immerse herself in the culture.

ME: (Under my breath) Or find myself a husband…!

DAD: #$%#%@#$!
I want to learn French. Very much.

Night

In preparation for my visit to Buchenwald in April, I am currently reading Elie Wiesel's Night. I consumed a good 50 pages last evening before bed; nothing too terribly graphic, but disturbing scenes nonetheless.

I knew this wasn't a good idea, and I was right. I woke up this morning in somewhat of a panic. I had awful dreams that I was being hunted, and had gone into hiding under a pile of blankets and cushions. It was very real, and I felt distress as my coating was stripped away and I was found.

No such account of the Holocaust has ever hit home as hard as Wiesel's, as he struggled through days upon weeks of bread and soup, beatings and watching inmates, friends, and family move on.

Wiesel was at Buchenwald for some time during the War. It was a tragedy, however I feel privileged to have the opportunity to see where he and others contended for their lives.

I'm hoping that it is possible, to prepare myself for this experience.

Welcome, have a seat!

Oh, hey!

Welcome to JC's EuroBlog v. 2.0, the multinational division of electronic surgical words and yet another production by approximatelyes!

'Exclamation Points' is what I will be bliggity bloggofesting on during my skip o' cross the pond (and by pond I mean the OCEAN).

Anyhow!

The countdown's a-rollin' and I am in near disbelief. One month and I will be in sunny England, rolling about in the soft sands and soaking myself in British husbandry. If everything goes as planned, Harry will roll up at a quarter to 7 and we'll hit the town. A few problems:

a. For some reason, "sunny England" doesn't roll off the tongue as naturally as "sunny Florida." Perhaps my conceptions of Britain's forecast are a tad off.

2. Soft sands? Who am I kidding. I don't even roll around on the shores of Sakakawea. And that's some pretty soft, legit sand.

III. And by husbandry, I mean finding myself a husband. NOT land management. That is for Ireland.

quatro: Harry doesn't know I'm coming yet...but he will. It's actually a surprise. But don't worry, the Queen knows. We've spoken.

Miscalculations aside, I am sure everything will be lovely. I am finishing up my coursework today to turn the whole kit'n'caboodle (remember those? Caboodles? I still use one) in tomorrow. Right now I am working on a "pre-trip museum plan," meaning I have to "pre-scope" out 8 museums in 8 cities that have some awesome appeal. Then I need to "pre-think" of artwork I'd like to visit, e.g. the Mona Lisa. Because goodness forbid an American tourist not see Mona (who also knows I'm coming)!

Tomorrow begins my Orientation session, six days of the Enlightenment, English novelists, and questionable ham sandwiches and potato chips provided by Sodexho. The best part about it is, 74% of the sessions are run by Rick Steves via DVD. Which means Rick Steves is pretty much here in Moorhead, giving me valid reason to get up at 9 a.m.*

(*I am not using the above asterisk for looks. Please refer to the end of the post. *~ThAnKs~*)

On a more positive note (as if anything gets better than Rick Steves DVD's) I finished reading the driest book of my LIFE (English Society in the Eighteenth Century) and now have more time to knit/noodle dance/watch Family Matters/play 52 pick-up. Praise be, I can have my life back again!!

Finally, (I just realized I don't have anything to write here) 31 days until blastoff!

Stop by again when you're in the neighborhood, if this pre-pre-trip yabber hasn't exhausted you. The best is yet to come!

Sweet nectar, and love to all.
